As EHC Biel announces, they have signed Jonas Hiller to a three-year contract. The goaltender thus leaves North America and the NHL after nine seasons and returns home to Switzerland.

According to Grégory Beaud (Le Matin/20 minutes), Hiller has no NHL out-clause in his contract. The 34-year-old netminder had joined the Anaheim Ducks in 2007, after he had been HC Davos’ starting goalie for three straight years. He stayed with the Ducks until 2014, when he signed a two-year contract with the Calgary Flames.

However, especially this past season has not been easy for Hiller. He only appeared in 26 games for the Flames and his save percentage dropped considerably from .918 in 2014-15 (in 52 games) to .879 in 2015-16 (in 26 games). Thus, it had already been quite clear that the Flames would not extend the netminders’ contract. Hiller appeared in 437 NHL games (33 in the postseason) over the course of his nine seasons in the NHL.

In other news, EHC Biel also officially confirms that Kevin Schläpfer will serve as their head coach for another season. (mso)
