The 25-year-old forward was drafted by the Florida Panthers in 2009. Since then, he has appeared in 81 NHL games (24 points) for the Panthers and the Flames. The Flames had signed him to a one-year, two-way contract in 2015 but did not extend him a qualifying offer this summer.

However, the American mostly played in the AHL over the course of the last five seasons, scoring 41 goals and 101 assists in 214 games for the Flames' and the Panthers' AHL affiliates. (mso)
